Lulacruza

This Colombian-Argentinean duo is formed by Alejandra Ortiz and Luis Maurette, who met in the city of Boston while they were studying at the Berklee College of Music. With a sound that was defined as ?folk with electronically processed sounds?, the album has several colaborations, like the one from Urian Sarmiento (Aterciopelados’s percussionist), Quentin SirJacq (jazz piano player) and Juan Stewart (from Jaime Sin Tierra).
It is avaliable on several record stores around Buenos Aires, and some of the tracks can listened through MySpace.

Los Saicos

This is one of the first and most amazing rock bands from Per?. They had a short but intense existence from 1964 to 1966, with heavy TV and radio rotation.
They published six singles in which they composed their own songs in spanish, something that was quite rare at the time. These records remained obscure until 1999, when the spanish label Electro Harmonix republished them as Wild Teen Punk From Per? 1965. The reason for the title is probably because the rough sound and anarchist lyrics of the band resembles the music genre that surfaced almost ten years later in London. Here are some tracks that we found in a tribute website:

Los Saicos - Demoler
Los Saicos - Camisa de fuerza
Los Saicos - Cementerio
Los Saicos - Fugitivo de Alcatraz
Los Saicos - Salvaje

Dani Umpi

Dani Umpi is a young painter, sculptor, singer and songwriter from Uruguay. His ascending musical career began almost by chance, when he published an English version of Jaime Roos’s Sur album (called North). Surprisingly, the song Loving You (Am?ndote in the original one) was an instant radio and club hit, so he decided to record other Uruguayan folk songs in a disco-gay mood.
In 2005 he published his first album with original compositions, called Perfecto.
Here are some songs from that record and some rarities that can be downloaded from Umpi’s website:

Dani Umpi - Atracci?n (from Perfecto, 2005)
Dani Umpi - Nueva generaci?n (from Perfecto, 2005)
Dani Umpi - Indiegente (Que Out’s cover)
Dani Umpi - Desesperado (Marta S?nchez’s cover)
Dani Umpi - And… what’s he like? (Jos? Luis Perales’s cover)
Dani Umpi - The Sign (Ace of Base’s cover)
Dani Umpi - Patada en el bajo beat (Tabar? Rivero’s cover)
Dani Umpi & Adri?n Soiza - No me importa morir (cover from El Otro Yo)
Dani Umpi & Mart?n Buscaglia - Specially for you (Kylie Minogue’s cover)
Max Capote & Dani Umpi - Quiz?s, quiz?s
Jes?s & Cleopatra con Dani Umpi - La primavera
Cristinita Percances con Dani Umpi - Malos modos
Ale Zanzi con Dani Umpi - Welcome to Umpilandia

Matilda - Formas de Inventar Nuestro Destino

We are listening to Matilda’s great second album. This synth pop band from the city of Rosario, Argentina, started in 2001 as a trio which consisted on Juan Manuel Godoy, Ignacio Espumado and Maxi Falcone. In 2002 they recorded an EP called Tres Corazones Rotos y un Ordenador. The song Ey! became an instant hit by the word of mouth among their fans.
In 2004 they Falcone left the band, but they didn’t cheer down and started to record their first album, Formas de Inventar Nuestro Destino. It was released last year and you can download it for free:

01-Visiones solitarias / 02-Habit?ndonos / 03-Somos un r?o
04-Desaprender / 05-Resucitar?s / 06-D?as de locura
07-Otros tiempos / 08-Volviendo hacia el sur / 09-Vemos

Both of Matilda’s records were released by Planeta X, an amazing independent label from Rosario. The majority of their records can be downloaded from their website (even though they also release them as physical CDs) and all of them are avaliable through SoulSeek, if you connect with the user called planetax (in case you want to download Matilda’s first EP).
